“This season has been a real eye-opener looking more in depth at what and why we are teaching customers and how they can use what they have learnt to progress in life.  It’s also opened our eyes in our professional progression.  The NVQ has been a fantastic learning tool with extremely enthusiastic and knowledgeable tutors.  The support has been incredible.”

Ian Constable, Instructor at Kilve Court Residential Education Centre, 3 May 2013.

Benefits for Employers

The Right Person

An apprentice offers a really cost effective solution for any organisation that needs flexible and responsive staff that can work across all aspects of the business.  They are employees like any other but you have the benefit of our dedicated support as a specialist training provider. We can blend NGB awards with the compulsory elements of an Apprenticeship to provide a complete package for your staff. Our aim is to support positive recruitment, encourage high quality instruction and improve staff retention for your centre.

The Right Package

Our Apprenticeship training is tailored to fit your needs and is provided through a series of residential workshops where your staff benefit from interacting with colleagues following the same frameworks at other centres. Assessments are performed in various ways but observation in the workplace and the collation of real work evidence is a big part of it. The relationship we build through this process really supports both you and the apprentice. Our unique e-portfolio package allows apprentices to manage their work and evidence online and provides progress information and feedback at a click. Apprenticeships are normally fully funded for 16-18 year olds and part-funded for 19-24 year olds.  In most cases you will pay nothing or only a small employer contribution for the training of a young person.

The Right Relationship

We build enduring relationships with our employers and help create sustainable strategies for recruitment, training and retention of staff. The successful model of Traineeship – Intermediate Apprenticeship – Advanced Apprenticeship – Instructor Post allows employers to grow talented young staff and keep their expertise. When the time does come for staff to move on we can often place them with other employers and introduce potential new staff fro you who have trained with us elsewhere. You recognise immediately the calibre and capabilities of those individuals.

“The apprenticeship scheme results in a greater number of potential future outdoor practitioners being harnessed before they are lost to other industries”

Gethin Williams, Head of Centre, Pendine Outdoors

Benefits for Apprentices

The Right Job

We believe that a job in the Outdoor Industry is probably the best job you could have. Working with like minded people in the UK’s most beautiful places, active outdoors, creating amazing experiences for the benefit of others. There is nothing more rewarding and worthwhile. However it’s not easy to get into and progress. There are so many qualifications, so many different employers and so many ways to develop. An Apprenticeship with Channel Training addresses all these issues and provides a first class entry to this exciting industry where your job benefits from the structure, support and fast development opportunities offered by the training package.

The Right Training

Your employer will need you to work towards specific qualifications for their activities but what about your overall development? What about if you want to leave and work in a different type of centre? You need to be in charge of your own direction and make sure you have a broad range of qualifications to be employable wherever your career takes you. Our Apprenticeships provide the core knowledge, skills and competence you need to work in any role in the outdoor industry at your level and the NGB awards you follow will develop and evidence your technical skills.

The Right Progression

At every step we are here to guide and support you. We are dedicated to your training and development throughout the Apprenticeship route and beyond into CPD as you progress in your career. We commit to you from the outset and aim to place you in your ideal job, provide all the training and qualifications you need with your employer and then, when the time comes, support you in your next steps up the ladder. We provide impartial and personalised advice and guidance, a vacancy matching service and contact with a massive network of employers across the industry.
