Wyedean canoe and adventure centre has been operating in Symonds Yat for over 30 years and we are one of the leading canoe hire specialists and activity centre along the River Wye.

The Symond’s Yat Gorge provides Wyedean Canoe and Adventure Centre with the best location in the country for the novice or expert canoeist. Our exclusive facilities on the banks of the Wye comprise of 100 open canoes, 30 kayaks and 10 SUPs.
Land-based adventure activities include Rock Climbing, Abseiling, Caving, Ropes Course, Archery, Adventure walks etc, which are run from our activity/accommodation centre, Holly Barn.

If you’d like to develop a career in the outdoors, this apprenticeship could provide you with the ideal launch pad. Wyedean Canoe and Adventure Centre are looking for 2 outdoor lovers to join their team.
The Apprenticeship is designed to introduce you to a wide range of outdoor activities, help develop your practical and coaching skills, give you the understanding of equipment that is needed to work in the industry, push your limits and help to make you the best Outdoor Instructor that you can be. There will also be a range of National Governing Body Awards offered, these will be dependant on the employer and apprentice.
Day to Day Duties:
- Assisting with the delivery of high quality sessions
- Setting up and equipment maintenance
- Assisting to clean and maintain activity equipment and facilities
- Assisting with customer requests and delivering high customer service
Skills and Qualifications:
Some personal experience in outdoor activities – Desirable
- a passion for personal development through outdoor activities – Essential
- 5 GCSE’s (A* – C / 4 – 9) including Maths and English – Desirable
- Personal Skills Awards in outdoor activities e.g. 2/3 star canoe or kayak, active climber or caver – Desirable
- Maths and English Level 1 – Essential
Successful candidates who complete their apprenticeship will be eligible to apply for these new roles or other comparable roles at other centres.
Hourly rate: Apprentice National Minimum Wage (bonus potential for right candidate)
Working Hours: The working week will average 37.5 hours. It will comprise both on-job and off-job training and will include evening and some weekend work. This hours are annualised over the 13 month contract.
Potential Start Date: March / April / May depending on applicant
