“When I visit an outdoor centre towards the end of their training and the ‘Apprentice’ chats/ speaks to me like a colleague / fellow instructor would rather than as a tutor and they stop looking to me for approval of their setups or coaching techniques. They are fellow coach / instructors just getting on with their job. They know what to do and how to do it so rather than ‘assess’ their delivery my role becomes more of a mentor just there to provide ‘helpful’ hints to support their development.”
“There are so many… but despite paddling it since I was a teenager kayaking down the Tavy with a couple of mates is still a great day out when the water is at a nice level and there is nobody else on it!! If I had a choice of anywhere it would be the same mates on the Ubyee on the France or Hiking in the Brenta Dolomites followed by pasta and vino in a Refugee’”
