  • BC Coach Award - Core Training
    23rd March 2019 - 24th March 2019
    9:00 am - 5:00 pm

New for 2018, the Coach Award replaces the old UKCC/BC Level 2 Award, moderate and advanced water endorsements as well as the discipline support modules. This exciting new award allows the coach to focus on the area of paddlesport they are most interested in developing their coaching in.

This two day, face to face training courses will cover the key underpinning coaching themes and concepts required by all coaches delivering at this level. The course will be a mixture of practical classroom and on the water learning sessions, providing you with lots of opportunities to explore and develop your coaching philosophies, principles and practices. You will then take this knowledge onto the environment and discipline you’d like to coach in i.e. sheltered water, moderate water or advanced water – canoe, sea kayak, white water kayak, marathon racing etc.

Your course will be delivered by experienced coach educators, who have a genuine passion for coaching and are active paddlers themselves. They will also be discipline specific trainers/assessors from sheltered to advanced water environments so can help you produce a detailed action plan to support your development going forward.  We will base the course at our excellent riverside venue at COACH, with first class, modern, comfortable facilities.

Who’s this course for? – Anyone who wants to coach Paddlesport, there are 18 different discipline pathways so there is something for everyone. Maybe you’re already a qualified coach but haven’t done any meaningful CPD for a while – this is a great way to update your existing knowledge with some fresh new ideas.

There are no prerequisites other than having full British Canoeing membership so no need to do the Paddlesport Instructor Award (formally level 1) – although the freely accessible e-learning support will be very useful in giving you the base knowledge, required to get the most out f this course.

Already a coach or started the level 2 process? There are some really useful resources from British Canoeing to help support you in deciding where to go – just click on the logo below to find out more or give us a call in the office to discuss your options – T:01643 708715 E: training@channelgroup.co.uk

Getting to COACH in Taunton

Our centre at COACH is an urban green space with an ethos on healthy outdoor lifestyles – with this in mind there are a host of parking options a short walk away but none at the centre.

For weekend courses we recommend parking in the Castle Sports Centre Carpark where you are only a short walk through Longrun Meadow to the centre – keep a look out for the large Oak barn, keep this on your left as you walk towards the river.

Follow the signs for the leisure centre and not the college – parking is £1 per day or free on a Sunday at the time of writing.

Car Park address: Castle School, Wellington Road, TA15AU

There is also free parking in nearby residential areas (not French Weir Avenue) but please park considerately.
