- Lundy Adventure
22nd July 2018 - 24th July 2018
8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Join us on one of the UK’s (if not the world’s) finest sea kayak expeditions to the very special Lundy Island. There are lots of great trips, but we think this three-day adventure is the best. From its abundant wildlife and bird life, to its remoteness and rugged beauty…and possibly the finest pub in the world, the Marisco Tavern. It’s very difficult to put into words how special this place is, you really have to experience it for yourself to appreciate it…but we’ll try.
Lundy is a unique environment sitting where the Bristol Channel meets the Atlantic Ocean and was the UK’s first marine conservation zone. The sheer amount of wildlife on and around Lundy is truly breath taking, sightings of Puffins, Manx Shearwaters, Grey Seals, Porpoise, Common and Bottlenose Dolphin, Peregrine Falcons and Gannets are all common place. If we’re lucky we may also see Basking Sharks, Pilot Whales, Risso Dolphins, Minke Whales and a variety of rare birds such as Golden Oriole and Hoopoe.
There is only one thing that makes Lundy even better and that’s seeing it from the seat of your kayak, with its 35+ caves and an abundance of gullies, rocks and soaring cliffs a circumnavigation of Lundy will not soon be forgotten. The contrast of the East and West of the Island is one of the great attractions of the Island, the rugged west coast which is open to the Atlantic swell gives way to mellower East coast with its wild flower meadows and gently sloping cliff tops.
Participant numbers are kept small to ensure you get the very best possible experience – your guide and coach will hold the highest awards of coaching and leadership as well as having a genuine passion for sea kayaking, Lundy and its wildlife. As well as sea kayaking, there will be the opportunity to snorkel with playful grey seals, explore the Island on foot, take photos and enjoy amazing sunsets at the end of the day.
Is this trip for you? Due to the committing nature of Lundy’s coastline this is not a trip for beginners – you should be happy being sat in your boat for up to a couple of hours or so at a time and have experience of paddling in wind, waves and round rocks. You should also be able to get back into your boat with assistance, if you’re at all unsure please do just give us a call.
