The Anderton Centre is spread across 4 acres of woodland and has exclusive use of Lower Rivington Reservoir, the largest expanse of water between the Midlands and the Lake District and is often referred to as Lancashire’s mini Lake District. It also provides conference facilities with full outdoor land and water-based activities complimented by 70 bed accommodation with catering and self-catering options.

The Anderton Centre are looking for one Outdoor Activity Instructor for a 12-18 month Apprenticeship starting in March. An outdoor apprentice at the Anderton Centre will give you experience in a variety of activities and technical skills. You can choose which route you want to go down depending on your interests, being based a multi activity centre like the Anderton Centre you will begin training in and teaching sailing, climbing, kayaking, canoeing, hill walking, mountain biking, and a variety of onsite activities.
While working at the Anderton Centre, you will obtain the following qualifications:
- 2 Day ITC Level 3 Award in Outdoor First Aid
- Mountain Training Hill Skills
- Manual Handling Awareness
- COSHH Awareness
- Level 1 Food Safety and Hygiene
- Level 1 Safeguarding Children
You will also receive a number of qualifications throughout your apprenticeship which form the pre-requisites of most coaching qualifications including personal performance awards, Foundation Safety & Rescue, First Aid, Safeguarding and RYA Power Boat Level 2 Licence. There may also be opportunities to work towards other NGB qualifications.

- Outgoing, approachable, well presented, friendly, committed, enthusiastic, independent, fit and keen to learn.
- A positive drive to develop your personal skills in adventurous activities is essential.
- An interest in outdoor activities.
Desirable skills and qualifications, but not essential:
- Some experience in outdoor activities
- 5 GCSE’s (A* – C / 4 – 9)
- Driving license and own transport
Essential skills and qualifications:
- A passion for personal development through outdoor activities
- Minimum of GCSE English and Mathematics grade 3 or D
Successful completion of an apprenticeship with the Anderton Centre would give you a good knowledge of working in the outdoor activity industry. We would look to keep apprentices on upon completion should they wish to stay or support them to move onto another job role within the industry.

The Anderton centre is, 0.8 Miles from the nearest Bus stop (regular 125 route).
The road and driveway are mostly unlit and without pavements.

Hourly rate: Apprentice National Minimum Wage
Contract: 13 month contract
Working Hours: 30 hours a week (annualised hours). Can include weekends and evenings. You will also benefit from Holidays, sick pay.
